With the weather showing no signs of improvement and the kids breaking up for their summer holidays soon, I imagine that many parents are starting to fret. After all, entertaining kids for six weeks can be a massive task, but at least when the sun is shining they can head outside and play with friends. When it’s raining, it becomes a whole lot more difficult to think of ways to keep them busy and stimulated. That’s why, for today’s blog, we’ll be looking at the best rainy day activities for the whole family to join in with! Make a family tree. All you need for this is a large piece of cardboard or craft paper and some pens and pencils. First, start with the kids at the bottom and then work your way up adding mum and dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles and more. You could even use family photographs to illustrate it, or hand-drawn portraits. Once that’s all done, draw a great big tree around it all! Write and illustrate a story. This works really well with small note or exercise books, but you can use a piece of paper folded in half. On one side, get your kids to write a short story. When they’ve finished, ask them to swap stories. Then, on the other side, ask them to illustrate the story that they’ve been given. You can really let them run wild with this task, letting them use any arts and crafts supplies you may have in the home. Put on a puppet show. Firstly, find a large cardboard box that you can turn into your stage. Simply turn an open box upside down, cut a square from the front out and add a pair of curtains (You could use an old t-shirt!). When it comes to the puppets themselves, you can use toys, old socks, paper bags, even washing-up gloves! Let your kids practice their show, then see what they come up with! In next week’s blog, we’ll have a look at a few more ideas for activities that will keep your little ones entertained and stimulated over the summer holidays. Of course, if you have any of your own, share them with us and we may feature the best ones! You can comment below or chat to us over on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.
