Easter is just around the corner - falling this year on 16 April! - and it's an exciting time for youngsters where you can indulge them a little with egg hunts and a few chocolate treats. But as we all know, the young ones can be hard to keep entertained over the holidays.... So that's why Bird Kids have come up with a handy list of 5 activities that will keep everyone busy long after the chocolate has been eaten and the decorative eggs are painted.
#1 Children’s Easter Events
There are plenty of varied and exciting Easter events for children to get stuck into over the break, including festivals, fairs and creative activities designed to get your youngsters inspired, engaged and amused all day long.
Our top three Easter events are:

Jump In! Norden Farm Festival, Maidenhead: Get your children involved in art workshops, dancing and theatre! The whole family can join in on loads of 'give-it-a-go' sessions where you can try out new skills such as chocolate making, stop motion animation and youth theatre groups. The packed two-week festival will finish on 14 April with a day of brilliant workshops.

Wild Wednesdays, Bath Skyline: Take a stroll down to the Woodland Play Area where there will be loads of creative activities and works of art for you to take home. The meet takes place at the Ralph Allen School, Claverton Down Road, BA2 7AD on Wednesday 12 April (10.30am - 12.30pm)

Children's Trust Easter Fair, Tadworth Court: Bursting with activities, this brilliant event in Surrey has an Easter Egg hunt, go karts, fairground attractions, farm animals, a shopping market and much more! #2 Theme Parks
Whether roller coasters are your thing or you're more a fan of the teacup rides, you can't go wrong with a theme park. The mainstream parks are a great day out; the whole family will have plenty of fun at
Legoland or
Chessington World of Adventure, but if the children want to try something else,
Crealy's Great Adventure Park in Devon is a perfect countryside day out. Alternatively, try
Paultons Family Theme Park in Hampshire, which is ideal for younger children.
#3 Nature Reserves
If you're on a budget but still want to get out and about over Easter, there are a wealth of spectacular nature reserves for you and the family. Top choices include
Rutland Water, one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe,
Skomer in Pembrokeshire, perfect for young photography and wildlife enthusiasts, and
Donna Nook, which is home to one of the largest grey seal populations in England.
#4 Farm Parks
Continuing the theme of low cost days out, there are plenty of farms in the UK that serve as open attractions.
Fishers Farm Park,
Ashdown Llama Farm and
Dairyland Farm World are a trio of the most highly recommended. Before you take your child to a farm park, just remember the following tips:
- For any “petting zoo” style farm, ensure that your children wash their hands after touching the animals - especially before eating.
- Ensure any child under 5 has adult supervision, and that they don’t put their fingers and hands in their mouth after they’ve come in contact with the animals.
- Once home, ensure everyone removes shoes before coming into the entrance way, and that you all change your clothes as soon as possible.
#5 Duvet Day
Perhaps, for one or two days of the Easter holidays at least, you don’t want to leave the house! A duvet day is exactly as it sounds: 24 hours spent under the covers. It’s a fun thing to do as a family, especially when breakfast in bed, board games and late-night bedtime story marathons come into the mix.
